What do an ex-con, a former drug addict, a real estate broker, a college student, and a married mother of two have in common?
Nothing. At least, that’s what Jodi Baxter thought. She only went to the women’s conference because her boss invited her. And because she didn’t have any real friends anymore . . . not after her husband up and moved them from the suburbs to Chicago’s north side because they “couldn’t hide forever in our comfort zone.”
When the conference assigned her to a prayer group, Jodi learned just how far outside her ‘comfort zone’ she needed to go – and found God waiting for her there.
Something happened that weekend to make this prayer group realize they had to hang together. So ‘the Yada Yada Prayer Group’ decided to keep praying for each other via e-mail. That worked for a while, but their personal struggles and requests soon got too intense for cyberspace, so they decided to meet together every other Sunday night.
Talk about a rock tumbler! - knocking off each other’s rough edges, learning to laugh and cry along the way. But when faced with the biggest crisis of her life, God used Jodi’s newfound girlfriends to help teach her – Jodi Baxter, longtime Christian ‘good-girl’ – what it means to be just a sinner saved by grace.
At first glance, you may think The Yada Yada Prayer Group is just a nice Christian novel, but be warned: reading this book may challenge your faith, touch your heart, and make you think. But if you’re willing to take that chance, order a copy today.
Still not sure? Read the excerpt. Check out our interview with author Neta Jackson. Oh, and don’t miss the salsa recipe (yum); this “party” edition of the book includes celebrations and recipes from each of the prayer group members.

 Dive into Midnight Sea
and be whisked away to a
coffee plantation on the Big
Island of Hawaii. Soon
you’ll be so deep in the
descriptions of warm sand
and island breezes that you
won’t even notice the
weather outside.
You’ll meet Lani, a new
Christian trying to overcome
her “good-time girl” past.
She’s making progress ― but
an apparently random
shooting leaves her blind
and wondering why God didn’t
protect her.
Then there’s Ben, an ex-cop
with issues of his own. His
assignment is to help Lani
learn to work with her new
seeing-eye dog.
But he doesn’t have to like
the job ― or her.
Stir in Lani’s ex-hippie
aunt Rina and her eccentric
circle of friends, sprinkle
some smuggling on top of
that, add a dash of murder
and mystery and you’ve got a
delicious concoction that
will keep you guessing until
the end.
Take a sip of Midnight Sea.
It’s good to the last drop.

Patsy Clairmont reviews Get Off
Your Knees & Pray ::
God is listening! It's a
comforting thought, but also
just a little disconcerting.
Sheila Walsh freely
confesses that most of her
life, prayer has been more
work than worship, but she
also shares a profound truth
she's come to realise - it
is not possible to "stink"
at prayer. Get Off Your
Knees & Pray expands on that
idea and opens the door of
possibility to the rest of
us.
Divided into four sections
(Path, Problem, Plan,
Purpose), Sheila tackles
questions we've all asked
such as:
- Do my prayers make a
difference?
- Why did God help her, but
not me?
- How do I know I heard
God's Voice?
The book offers not just
answers, but a new
perspective. "Prayer,"
Sheila tells us, "is not
just something we do - it is
who we are."
Read Get Off Your Knees
& Pray and find out who
you are.

Heather
Curridge has it all:
handsome heart-surgeon
husband, great kid, mansion
on a lake, shopping
addiction, and a dark secret
in her past. It's all
getting to be too much for
her - and people are
starting to notice. Sound
like a recipe for disaster?
Could be . . . until God
intervenes in the shape of
(of all things) a kangaroo.
Follow Heather on her
journey as she learns to
deal with it all - with some
unexpected help from two
elderly Quaker sisters and a
feisty nun. Maybe, like
Heather, you'll discover
that sometimes you have to
go a little bit crazy to
find the life you were meant
to live.
Publisher's Weekly calls
Quaker Summer a "staggering
examination of the Christian
conscience" and says the
author "paints an
emotionally and spiritually
luminous portrait of a soul
beckoned by God." Read it
and you'll find out why.

If what you're after is a
light, fluffy book that
spins Scripture verses and
upbeat platitudes into a
feel-good philosophy that
melts in your mouth like
cotton candy, you'll have to
keep looking. This is not
that book.
If, on the other hand, your
heart longs for an achingly
honest, unflinching look at
reality - and the presence
of God in that reality -
you've come to the right
place. Carol Kent's journey
to hope has been a long,
difficult one, and she
courageously shares it with
us. As she says, "This book
is about choices—not the
kind we place on goal
charts, but the choices we
all need to make when our
carefully developed life
plan takes a U-turn or comes
to a sudden halt."
A sampling of chapter titles
reflects some of those
choices:
When I Wonder What God Could
Possibly Be Thinking . . .
I Choose Trust
When Nothing Goes According
to My Plan . . .
I Choose Relinquishment
When I Want to Give Up . . .
I Choose Purposeful Action
The stories of others who
have chosen to "embrace the
new opportunities and
unexpected joys" of a life
turned upside down are woven
through the book. Vulnerable
and poignant, A New Kind of
Normal is an ultimately
triumphant message of life,
hope, and joy.
