HOW DO I
COMMIT MY LIFE TO THE LORD JESUS
CHRIST?
That question is one of the most
important you will ever ask. Among
the many ways of answering the
question is to explain the A, B, C,
D of salvation:
A stands for ACCEPT
B stands for BELIEVE
C stands for CONFESS
D stands for DO
Accept
The Bible sets out basic statements
that you must accept as true.
1. Everyone has sinned. That
includes you.
For everyone
has sinned; we all fall short of
God's glorious standard. (Romans
3:23)
All of us, like sheep, have strayed
away. We have left God's paths to
follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on
him the sins of us all. (Isaiah
53:6)
2. The consequence of sinning is
spiritual death, or separation from
God.
For the wages
of sin is death, but the free gift
of God is eternal life through Jesus
Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
It's your sins that have cut you off
from God. Because of your sins, he
has turned away and will not listen
anymore. (Isaiah 59:2)
Once you were dead because of your
disobedience and your many sins.
(Ephesians 2:1)
3. Even while we were sinners God
loved us and Jesus Christ died for
us. Christ's death demonstrates
God's love for you. It is also the
only way to make forgiveness
possible for you.
But God showed
his great love for us by sending
Christ to die for us while we were
still sinners. (Romans 5:8)
In fact, according to the law of
Moses, nearly everything was
purified with blood. For without the
shedding of blood, there is no
forgiveness. (Hebrews 9:22)
4. If you place your trust in Jesus
Christ you will never perish, but
have eternal life. Trust him as the
one who gave his life as a ransom
for you, a sinner. Trust him as the
one who was raised from the dead and
who now lives to save you.
For God loved
the world so much that he gave his
one and only Son, so that everyone
who believes in him will not perish
but have eternal life. God sent his
Son into the world not to judge the
world, but to save the world through
him. (John 3:16-17)
Believe
The Bible has several thousand
promises within its pages. Many of
these are applicable to you in your
need. You must believe them because
they are words from God and God
cannot lie.
As the
Scriptures tell us, "Anyone who
trusts in him will never be
disgraced." (Romans 10:11)
This truth gives them confidence
that they have eternal life, which
God - who does not lie - promised
them before the world began. (Titus
1:2)
As the scriptures say, "I am placing
a cornerstone in Jerusalem, chosen
for great honour, and anyone who
trusts in him will never be
disgraced." (1 Peter 2:6)
Confess
"Confess" has a twofold meaning. It
means "declare openly". It also
means to "admit you are guilty." You
have to do both. Admit you are
guilty of sinning, and express in
words your own deep-felt intention
of turning from your past life of
sin to do God's will to the best of
your ability. Declare that up to now
you have gone your own way, but from
now on Jesus Christ is to be your
Lord whom you will serve with all
the strength God gives you.
For it is by
believing in your heart that you
were made right with God, and it is
by confessing with your mouth that
you are saved. (Romans 10:10)
But if we confess our sins to him,
he is faithful and just to forgive
us our sins and to cleanse us from
all wickedness. (1 John 1:9)
Bring your confessions, and return
to the Lord. Say to him, "Forgive
all our sins and graciously receive
us, so that we may offer you our
praises." (Hosea 14:2)
Make your confession and prayer,
then later tell your friends.
Do
The acid test of sincere faith in
Jesus Christ is in your actions,
attitudes and practices.
Not everyone
who calls out to me, "Lord! Lord!"
will enter into the Kingdom of
Heaven. Only those who actually do
the will of my Father in heaven will
enter. (Matthew 7:21)
But don't just listen to God's word.
You must do what it says. Otherwise,
you are only fooling yourselves.
(James 1:22)
A SHORT PRAYER
TO HELP YOU CONFESS YOUR FAITH TO
GOD
Father God, I accept the fact that
I'm a sinner, but I also accept that
your only Son, Jesus Christ, died on
the cross so that my sins can be
forgiven. I am sorry for the things
I have done wrong in my life. Please
forgive me. I now turn from
everything which I know is wrong.
I pledge myself to do your will from
this day forward if only you will
help me by your grace.
Make me your child now by the inward
working of your Holy Spirit. May
your Son, Jesus Christ, come now and
live in my heart.
Lord Jesus Christ, I believe God
raised you from the dead and today I
acknowledge you as Lord of my whole
life and as my Saviour.
